Florida And Andrew Jackson

While South Florida has had its share of presidential history throughout the twentieth century, the panhandle can claim earlier ties. Andrew Jackson served as the first territorial governor of Florida, after Florida was acquired by the United States from Spain in 1821. Pensacola would be designated as the capital of the territory that June.
